Our statement on Nitram

The Australian Gun Safety Alliance understands the importance of the creative industries telling stories of significant events in Australia’s history.

However, out of respect for the victims, survivors and first responders of Port Arthur, the Alliance will not be making any comments about the new film, Nitram.

Members of the Alliance continue to work with all jurisdictions to ensure that the gun reforms that emerged after the tragedy are protected and that all Australians remain safe from firearm violence.

We are disappointed that no jurisdiction is fully compliant with the National Firearms Agreement that was supported by all governments 25 years ago after Port Arthur.

We will continue to hold governments accountable for their responsibilities.
